HOUSE BAIRD
House Baird serves as summer break-away house for the Baird family in the Catskills, New York. A home offers gracious, welcoming, cosy places to entertain both inside and outside.
A place to make big fires, gather around them with wine and cocktails, read books and draw, paint, photograph and play games. The design draws from traditional morphologies and building methods from the surrounding area, incorporating local and reclaimed materials for it to sit authentically within the landscape.

This modern family home is situated in the picturesque coastal town of Yzerfontein. With the recent influx of families trying to escape the busy city life, the town has rapidly grown into one of the most popular destinations for new home owners to settle. The house enters directly into a large open plan living and kitchen space that lives out onto a large deck. Upstairs there is a spacious main bedroom with an En-suite bathroom and two spacious kids bedrooms sharing a second bathroom. All the bedrooms live out onto large balconies with views of the surrounding mountains and ocean. The roof of the double garage serves as a second entertainment space where the owner can enjoy some sundowners before retreating to the wind sheltered deck below.

This break-away house is designed to be built in two phases, hence the two barrel roofs, each constructed at a different time of the client's spatial requirements. The design draws from the vernacular mussel keels used to create the traditional lime plaster of the traditional fisherman's huts.

This modern home was once a typical 1970's suburban home with very little exciting features to boast about. Now it is a modern, open plan family home, ideal for entertaining guests and offers all the features of a contemporary high end residence. The house boasts two separate lounges, a bar and entertainment area, covered braai area looking out over the garden with a large swimming pool. All windows have been replaced with double glazed aluminium and the finishes have been hand selected to give the house a modern country feel. There are also two new flatlets with separate entrances, each with a small Kitchenette for guests coming from afar.

TAMBOERSKLOOF HERITAGE HOME
The original home was built in 1904 and was designed with a combination of Victorian and Cape Dutch influences. Several renovations took place over the years to convert this home into a guest house which took away from its original character. The new owners chose to restore the original character of the house and convert it into a four bedroom manor house with plenty of room for entertainment and relaxation. The house has some of the best views of Table mountain and the city bowl so it was critical that the house has seamless transitions between interior and exterior. Arches were used to create a common reference between the later additions to the original house and all timber components were restored in a rich mahogany wood. The main alteration was renovating the link between the old and new buildings by adding large timber stacking doors and a flat roof with Poplar Beams to be used as a kitchen and entertainment area. The bedrooms were upgraded and interior spaces were finished in bespoke artesanal materials to create a unique hand-crafted home that reflects the personalities of the owners and their love of fine arts.

Starry Starry Night
This addition to an original Karoo farmhouse is nestled in the mountains surrounding the picturesque town of Montagu. The owners wanted something unique and special to serve as their private break away on the popular Starry Starry Night guest farm. The building is completely off the grid, with water supplied from a nearby stream and solar power to keep the lights on. The building is designed of only sustainable materials, majority of which are sourced on the farm and makes use of passive climate control principles to handle the sometimes harsh natural environment. Each opening frames a specific angle of the stunning views from the property down the valley looking over the town of montagu. In winter or summer this is the perfect getaway just a two hour drive from Cape Town.

KLEINE OUDE, WYNBERG
The building was the stables to the original Wynberg farm house. Built in the mid 1800's this national monument came with significant challenges and Red Tape. In the end it took all our expertise and a lot of patience and dedication from the amazing owner to convert this Heritage property into her dream home. The structure was completely restored, thatch replaced and all lead glass windows and doors replaced with exact replica's of the original. Thanks to the amazing team of artisans and professionals, we managed to create something truly unique. The house is now a reflection of the wonderful personalities of it's new owners and a great example of mid 19th century Cape Vernacular architecture. What a privilege to have worked on something with this much history.

PARIS CAPE TOWN BAKERY
This authentic French bakery is located on the vibrant Main Road of Sea Point. The brief calls for a traditional French viennoiserie set within a Cape Dutch heritage building. The design aim is to create a contemporary threshold between Cape Dutch elements and the interior space. The idea of Paris meeting Cape Town is carried through by integrating French and local textures.

SCIONS OF SINAI AUXILIARY CELLAR
This auxiliary structure is a re-use of an exiting barn adjacent to the historic Klein Helderberg Cellar at the foot of the Helderberg mountain. The cellar is where Scions of Sinai wines are produced and stored with the addition serving as it's office and reception space. The design aims to insert itself within the structure, making use of as much of the existing materials available.
